In the sixth list, the Congress denied a ticket to Public Health Engineering Department Minister Mahesh Joshi from his Hawa Mahal constituency in Jaipur. RR Tiwari has been fielded from Hawa Mahal in his place.

Meanwhile, the BJP's list included some fresh faces. Among the new faces fielded by the party are Gopal Sharma, a journalist, from Civil Lines, businessman Ravi Nayyar from Adarsh Nagar, and Upen Yadav, who held demonstrations and agitations on the issues of unemployed youths during the Congress rule, from Shahpura.

After several days of intense negotiations, the ruling Congress on Saturday announced its first list, naming candidates for 33 of the 200 seats, for the Rajasthan Assembly election to be held on November 25. Of the 33 nominees, 29 are sitting MLAs.

The Congress list contained the constituencies represented by heavyweights such as Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Assembly Speaker C.P. Joshi, former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot, and Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra. Mr. Gehlot will contest the polls from Sardarpura, Mr. Joshi from Nathdwara, Mr. Pilot from Tonk, and Mr. Dotasra from Lachhmangarh.

The candidates considered loyalists of Mr. Pilot named in the list included Indraj Singh Gujjar (Viratnagar), Mukesh Bhakar (Ladnun), and Ramniwas Gawariya (Parbatsar). Four candidates each were declared for the seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

In the first week of November, Congress released its seventh list of 21 candidates for the Rajasthan assembly elections, fielding state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal from the Kota North seat.

New Delhi: Mahesh Joshi, a state minister who was one among the three Ashok Gehlot loyalists who spearheaded the rebellion that prevented a Congress Legislature Party meeting last year that could have set the stage for Sachin Pilot becoming Chief Minister, was on Saturday denied a ticket by the Congress to contest the Rajasthan Assembly election.

In the sixth list of 23 Congress candidates, Mahesh Joshi's name was notably absent, while RR Tiwari was named as the candidate for Hawa Mahal, Joshi's sitting seat. This decision signals that the Congress High Command did not take kindly to the Gehlot loyalists' rebellion last year, when the leadership wanted Gehlot to become Congress president and make way for Pilot as Chief Minister.

Despite intense lobbying by Gehlot, Joshi was not nominated, with his supporters protesting earlier this week when his name did not figure in the lists. There were reports that Rahul Gandhi was opposed to renominating Joshi and others.

Another contender, Shanti Dhariwal, also a minister - who along with Joshi is said to have masterminded the rebellion to thwart Pilot's chances while Gehlot was to be elevated as Congress president - also did not figure in the list. However, his Kota North constituency remained unallocated, leading to speculation that he may be lobbying for his son's candidature.

Dharmendra Rathore, Chairman of the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and one of the three leaders showcaused by the Congress leadership for the rebellion, has also not figured in the list so far.

With the announcement of 23 candidates in the sixth list, the Congress has announced 178 candidates out of 200, renominating 105 sitting MLAs and dropping 12, with 24 female candidates. The last date for filing nominations is November 6, and Congress is expected to name the remaining 21 candidates, leaving one seat for RLD. Additionally, after talks with the CPI(M) broke down, the Congress named candidates in two of the Left party's sitting seats, Bhadra and Dungagarh.

The Congress party on Sunday released its second list of candidates for the Rajasthan assembly elections, 2023. Among the prominent names on the list, were -- Raghu Sharma from the Kekri constituency, Pratap Khachariyawas from Civil Lines and Vishvendra Singh from Deeg-Kumher.

Here are some sitting Rajasthan ministers who found place on the second list of candidates: Govind Ram Meghwal from Khajuwala, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas from Civil Lines, Vishvendra Singh Deeg, Parsadi Lal Meena from Lolsot, Udai Lal Anjana from Nimbahera, Shakuntala Rawat from Bansur, Sukhram Vishnoi from Sanchore, Ramlal Jaat from Mandal and Pramod Jain Bhaya from Anta.

The Congress has released its third list of candidates for the Rajasthan elections. In its third list, the Congress has fielded Sitting MLA from the Taranagar constituency Narendra Budania against Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Rajendra Singh Rathore.

The Rajasthan Congress named 19 candidates, including Budania in the third list. The party has so far released the names of 95 candidates for the 200-seat assembly. The party released 33 and 43 names in the first and second lists, respectively, for the November 23 elections.

Jaipur: Congress released its first list of 152 candidates for the Rajasthan assembly polls late on Thursday after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its two lists for 162 seats earlier this week.

The Congress released its third list of candidates for the Rajasthan Assembly election, declaring 10 new names and replacing three previously-declared nominees. It has left five seats for its allies.

India's ruling Hindu nationalist party soundly defeated the secular Congress Party in key state elections that were widely seen as a dry run for national voting slated for next year, according to election results released Thursday.

The party's strong showing is likely to strengthen Vajpayee's diplomatic hand as he continues his efforts to improve relations with Pakistan -- a personal quest that has been met with skepticism among right-wing nationalist groups allied with the BJP.

Congress has traditionally performed better than the BJP in state elections, and even after this week's losses it will still control 12 of India's 28 states, compared with seven for the Hindu nationalists. 2351a5e196
