CONGNEX Scanner

Effective Date: July 14, 2026

Package: com.cognex.scanner

This Privacy Policy explains how CONGNEX Scanner (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the CONGNEX Scanner mobile application (the “App”). By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

1. Who We Are

CONGNEX Scanner is an Android application that provides on-device barcode and QR code scanning, QR generation, local scan history, favorites, and related productivity features. The App is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Cognex Corporation.

2. Information We Collect

We designed the App to keep your scan activity private. Categories of information that may be processed are described below.

2.1 Information you create in the App

• Barcode / QR scan values and formats

• Timestamps and optional favorite flags

• QR codes you generate (text, URL, Wi-Fi payloads, etc.)

• In-app preferences (theme, beep, vibration, camera, history settings)

This information is stored locally on your device using an on-device database (Room). We do not operate a user account system and we do not upload your scan history to our servers.

2.2 Device permissions

• Camera — used only for live barcode scanning. Frames are processed on-device; we do not upload camera images or video to our servers.

• Gallery / photos — used only when you choose “Scan from Gallery.” The Android system photo picker lets you select one image. The App does not request broad storage or media-library access.

• Storage — not required for normal scanning. Temporary file access may occur only when you intentionally export or share files via the system share sheet.

• Internet / Network state — required to load advertisements and optional remote resources from advertising partners.

• Advertising ID (AD_ID) — may be accessed by Google AdMob to serve and measure ads, subject to your device settings and applicable law.

• Vibration — used for optional haptic feedback on successful scans.

We do not request Contacts, SMS, microphone, or precise Location permissions. There is no background tracking of your location or contacts.

2.3 Information collected by advertising partners

The App displays ads served by Google AdMob. Google and its partners may collect device identifiers, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, device and app interaction data, and diagnostic information to provide advertising, fraud prevention, and analytics. This processing is governed primarily by Google’s policies. See also our Ads Policy in the App.

3. How We Use Information

We use on-device information solely to:

• Provide barcode scanning, history, favorites, search, export, and QR generation features

• Remember your settings and improve the in-app experience

• Display advertisements that help keep the App free

• Maintain security, diagnose crashes (if applicable), and prevent abuse

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your scan contents for advertising profiles.

4. Data Storage and Retention

Scan history, favorites, and preferences remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App. You may clear scan history from the History screen (subject to app features) or by clearing the App’s storage in Android Settings. Uninstalling the App removes locally stored App data, subject to Android backup behavior.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your scan history. Limited sharing occurs only as needed to operate the App:

• Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads SDK — for serving and measuring advertisements

• On-device libraries (e.g., Google ML Kit Barcode Scanning, ZXing) — processing occurs on your device

• When you choose to export or share content (CSV, PDF, share sheet), data leaves the App under your control to the destination you select (email, messaging apps, files, etc.)

6. Security

We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate for a local-first mobile app, including on-device storage of scan history and limiting network use primarily to advertising. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for protecting your device with a secure lock screen and keeping your OS updated.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). Please review our Children’s Policy in Settings for full details regarding COPPA and similar laws.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data. Because most App content is stored locally, you can exercise many of these rights directly by deleting history, clearing App data, or uninstalling the App.

Advertising preferences:

• Android Settings → Google → Ads (reset advertising ID / opt out of ads personalization where available)

• Review Google’s advertising and privacy controls at https://policies.google.com/privacy

Most privacy controls for this App can be exercised directly on your device by deleting scan history, clearing App storage, or uninstalling the App.

9. International Users

The App may be available worldwide. Advertising partners may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States, subject to their respective safeguards and legal bases.

10. Third-Party Links and Services

If a scanned code or generated QR opens a website or third-party app, that destination’s privacy practices apply. We are not responsible for third-party sites or services you choose to visit.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product, legal, or regulatory changes. The “Effective Date” at the top will be revised when changes are published. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy where permitted by law.
