Coach Kim Jong-guk, who started his professional career at Haitai in 1996 and played as a one-club man until his retirement at KIA in 2010, is a former franchise star coach who continued his coaching career only at KIA even after his retirement. Coach Kim Jong-guk, who was appointed as KIA's 10th head coach after signing a three-year contract worth a total of 1.05 billion won (300 million won in down payment, 250 million won in annual salary) in December 2021, recorded 70 wins and 1 record in 2022, his first season in office. He entered the fall baseball season by recording a draw and 73 losses (winning percentage of 0.490) and leading the team that was 9th in the previous season to 5th place.
