The UAE has long invested in creating world-class entertainment and leisure infrastructure for Family day events in UAE . Government-led initiatives, private organizers, and hospitality brands all contribute to a vibrant events scene that runs year-round.
Family day events in the UAE typically include:
Live entertainment: From musical performances and theatrical shows to puppet shows and magic acts tailored for kids
Interactive activities: Arts and crafts workshops, cooking classes, science experiments, and sports challenges
Food and dining experiences: Family-style feasting at food festivals, pop-up markets, and outdoor barbecue events
Cultural experiences: Heritage days, traditional Emirati activities, and educational exhibits that connect children to the region's history
The cooler months between October and April are peak season for outdoor family events, given the pleasant weather. However, indoor events, mall activations, and themed park experiences keep the calendar full during the hotter summer months too.
Dubai is home to some of the most iconic family experiences in the world. Global Village, which typically runs from October to April, is a standout — it's a multicultural festival park that brings together pavilions from over 90 countries, complete with live performances, carnival rides, and international food stalls. Families can easily spend a full day (or two) exploring it.
Dubai Parks and Resorts is another heavyweight, hosting Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks, and LEGOLAND Dubai under one roof. Theme park days here are a firm favorite for families with children of all ages.
For something more low-key, the Dubai Creek area and Al Mamzar Beach Park regularly host family picnic events and outdoor activities, particularly during national holidays and school breaks.
Abu Dhabi balances high-octane adventure with rich cultural programming. Ferrari World is a consistent crowd-pleaser, featuring the world's fastest roller coaster alongside gentler rides suited to younger children.
Yas Island has grown into a full-scale family destination, with Warner Bros. World, Yas Waterworld, and regular outdoor events transforming it into a weekend destination in its own right.
Cultural family days at the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque area are also worth noting. These events are thoughtfully designed to be educational and engaging for children, often incorporating storytelling, craft activities, and guided tours tailored for young visitors.
Sharjah offers a slightly different pace — and it's a wonderful option for families who want to blend entertainment with learning. The Sharjah International Book Fair, one of the largest in the world, has a dedicated children's section with storytelling sessions, interactive workshops, and author meet-and-greets.
The Sharjah Children's Museum and Al Montazah Parks are local favorites for family days, offering hands-on exhibits and thrilling water and amusement rides respectively. Throughout the year, Sharjah's public parks and corniche areas host community family events, particularly around UAE National Day and Eid celebrations.
Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Ajman tend to fly under the radar when it comes to family events — but that's changing fast. RAK's Jebel Jais mountain range has become a destination for adventurous families, with zip-lining, hiking trails, and regular outdoor events hosted in the cooler months.
Fujairah's coastal setting makes it ideal for beach-based family days, with several resorts hosting seasonal events, snorkeling excursions, and kid-friendly water sports activities.
Timing matters when it comes to UAE family events. Here's a quick seasonal breakdown:
October – December: The outdoor event season kicks off. Global Village opens, food festivals return, and National Day celebrations on December 2nd bring spectacular public events across all seven emirates.
January – March: Peak family event season. School holiday activities ramp up, outdoor festivals are in full swing, and cultural events fill the weekends.
April – June: Events begin to wind down as temperatures rise, but indoor family days, escape rooms, and mall events keep things lively.
July – September: Summer in the UAE means indoor entertainment. Shopping malls run extensive summer family programs, cinemas debut family blockbusters, and indoor theme parks see their highest footfall.
Getting the most out of a family day event takes a little planning. A few tips to keep in mind:
Book in advance: Popular events like Global Village, Ferrari World, and Yas Island sell out during peak periods. Secure tickets early to avoid disappointment.
Check age and height restrictions: Theme parks and adventure activities often have minimum height requirements, so review these before committing to an itinerary.
Arrive early: Large events can get crowded by midday. An early start means shorter queues and more time to explore.
Plan around the weather: For outdoor events between May and September, mornings are significantly cooler than afternoons. Start early and plan for indoor breaks during peak heat hours.
Pack smart: Sunscreen, hats, reusable water bottles, and comfortable shoes are non-negotiable for outdoor family events in the UAE.
