We are a grassroots group of families from various Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) who came together out of deep concern for how immigration enforcement activity—and the stress and fear it causes—are affecting our children’s sense of safety, belonging, and well-being.
Students are missing school. Families are living in fear. Staff and families are worried about the costs of speaking up.
We believe these fears deserve acknowledgment, compassion, and determined action—not silence. Yet we have heard mostly silence on this topic during the CMS school board race.
So, we asked CMS school board candidates what they will do differently than the current board to ensure that immigrant families feel safe and every child can attend school without fear.
