6TH Conference of
the Romanian Society for Cultural astronomy
The 2024 international conference of the Romanian Society for Cultural Astronomy will be hosted by the West University of Timisoara Romania. The event will take place on September 7 from 09:00.
Each brings together over 20 participants from all over Europe and the rest of the world (Romania, Rep. Moldova, Serbia, Hungary, Germany, UK, Venezuela) in presentations and discussions related to astronomy in culture.
The 2022 the international conference of the Romanian Society for Cultural Astronomy was colocated with the 29th Conference of the European Society for Astronomy in Culture (SEAC). It took place on 9th September in Timisoara.
The 2021 edition was dedicated to celebrating 20 years of activity of the Astronomical Society Sirius in Barlad, Romania.
The 2019 edition was dedicated to celebrating 55 years of activity for the planetarium in Timisoara. The first in Romania, the ZKP-1 model is still in use today.
The conference is an excellent opportunity for those interested in any topic related to astronomy in culture (archaeoastronomy, history of astronomy, gnomonics, etc.) to present their ideas and results and to discuss with other participants from Romania and abroad.
Extended versions of the papers presented in 2024 will be published as post-proceedings in the 5th volume of the conference in Spring 2025.

At the end of the conference the organizers will award the excellence prize for the entire career in astronomy in culture to one distinguished person from Romania.
The topics for this year (2024) include:
Archaeoastronomy (astronomically aligned buildings, ancient astronomical symbols)
Gnomonics (sundials in the region, history of sundials, etc.)
Ethnoastronomy (astronomy in current societies: symbols, myths, folklore)
History of astronomy and space exploration (events, people, discoveries, etc.)
Impact of astronomy on nature and our society (light pollution, etc.)
The deadlines for 2024 are:
June 31, 2024: registration and abstracts
September 7, 2024: conference dates
January 31, 2025: extended papers
Summer of 2025: publishing of the post-proceedings
