Scratch

Scratch has been around for a while. When it was in an early version, 1.4, we created a cross-curricular project called Literacy from Scratch.

The web site has a range of students’ work, from 5-year olds in a west London primary school, writing bi-lingual stories:

to my post-graduate students at Brunel University London, who developed Branching Stories as part of their Computing curriculum, as well as cross-curricular resources :

There are commentaries by the students themselves on their work.

While Scratch 1.4 has been replaced, the teaching materials on the site are still relevant, of course. There are lesson plans, and schemes of work, as well as links to the Routledge text which carries the project. See a review here.

Scratch 2

This project is explained in detail on our World Ecitizens web site. The project, on Healthy Eating, was carried out at Lambeth College in south London, and supported by teaching materials created by a primary school student.

This recipe works. Just follow the instructions in the Scratch file!
