We read, discussed, and watched IV.ii - iii. today. IV.iii. focuses on LEADERSHIP. We noted the good and bad traits of a leader, and in the second half of class, we wrote an argument on a real world leader, judging them using IV.iii.. If you were absent, you can write this in the catch up session on Oct. 22nd 3:30 -4:30.

Wednesday, Oct. 14th
We read, discussed, and viewed two versions of IV.i.. We also took notes on the SCREENPLAY FORMAT. If you want to watch the video on this, the link is on today's thread on Teams. You have a choice of working in a group in which you all hand in ONE SCREENPLAY and you FILM the scene OR working by yourself and handing in your own ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY based on a scene from Macbeth. We had a few minutes at the end of class to make some decisions/ find a group. I will ask you for your decision on this unit project next class before we continue with Act IV.
Friday, Oct. 9th
We read, discussed, and viewed Act III.ii.- vi. today. This included watching both Polanski and Kurosawa's versions of the banquet/ ghost scene. Keep this in mind as we discuss the unit end project next week. We are about to start Act IV.
If you were absent, read to the end of Act III. If you have questions, come and talk to me during a Day 1 Flex Time.

I collected any remaining Literary Devices from Act One. Then we read, viewed, and discussed II.i.-iii.109. We will continue with this scene next time. Be prepared to write next class. Remember what you read and viewed today.
Wednesday, Sept. 23rd
We finished reading and discussing Act One of MACBETH, noting that the key passages you are responsible for knowing are where you can find examples of literary devices.
We did a drama exercise, re-enacting the murder of Duncan. Remember what it felt like to be Duncan/ Macbeth. At the end of class, we worked on finishing the literary devices assignment from Monday. I collected the finished copies. If you need more time, finish it for homework and bring it next class.
Monday, Sept. 21st
We read, viewed, and discussed I.iv-vi of MACBETH today. For the key passages, you will be writing on the CONTENT, CONTEXT, CHARACTER, PURPOSE, and USE OF LANGUAGE. We practiced doing this with Lady Macbeth's passages in I.v..
At the end of class, we practiced identifying literary devices by copying out TWO examples each of alliteration, allusion, paradox, simile, and metaphor from Act I. I collected what you wrote in class, but you will get more time on Wednesday to finish this.
Thursday, Sept. 17th
We did a grammar lesson on types of sentences and how to punctuate them, then we made corrections on the paragraph you wrote last class. If you were unable to see the marked copy on Teams today, please email me and I will send you screenshots by email. (mimosa.bryant@burnabyschools.ca). Please finish your corrections for homework and bring them to next class if you did not finish in class today. We briefly went over the end of I.iii. to the end of I.iv.. We will carry on with MACBETH next class.
Tuesday, Sept. 15th
After reviewing I.ii., we wrote a short paragraph, with supporting quotations, on what the Scottish people think of Macbeth at the beginning of the play. Then we read and discussed I.iii., focusing on the second key passage in which Macbeth struggles over whether to trust the witches' prophecies or not.
Friday, Sept. 11th
Excellent reading and participation today! We worked through I.i. and I.ii., noting details and literary features. At the end of class, we started reviewing classical mythology as Shakespeare frequently uses this in his allusions. Good work!

After a brief introduction to the course (please refer to the course outline posted on Teams), we wrote a writing sample.
We went over THE GREAT CHAIN OF BEING and created a tableau of the characters in MACBETH. We will continue with the play on Friday.
