Monday, Sept. 21st
We read, viewed, and discussed I.iv-vi of MACBETH today. For the key passages, you will be writing on the CONTENT, CONTEXT, CHARACTER, PURPOSE, and USE OF LANGUAGE. We practiced doing this with Lady Macbeth's passages in I.v..
At the end of class, we practiced identifying literary devices by copying out TWO examples each of alliteration, allusion, paradox, simile, and metaphor from Act I. I collected what you wrote in class, but you will get more time on Wednesday to finish this.
Thursday, Sept. 17th
We did a grammar lesson on types of sentences and how to punctuate them, then we made corrections on the paragraph you wrote last class. If you were unable to see the marked copy on Teams today, please email me and I will send you screenshots by email. (mimosa.bryant@burnabyschools.ca). Please finish your corrections for homework and bring them to next class if you did not finish in class today. We briefly went over the end of I.iii. to the end of I.iv.. We will carry on with MACBETH next class.
Tuesday, Sept. 15th
After reviewing I.ii., we wrote a short paragraph, with supporting quotations, on what the Scottish people think of Macbeth at the beginning of the play. Then we read and discussed I.iii., focusing on the second key passage in which Macbeth struggles over whether to trust the witches' prophecies or not.
Friday, Sept. 11th
Excellent reading and participation today! We worked through I.i. and I.ii., noting details and literary features. At the end of class, we started reviewing classical mythology as Shakespeare frequently uses this in his allusions. Good work!

Wednesday, Sept. 9th
After a brief introduction to the course (please refer to the course outline posted on Teams), we wrote a writing sample.
We went over THE GREAT CHAIN OF BEING and created a tableau of the characters in MACBETH. We will continue with the play on Friday.
