Ten religious studies and/or theology faculty from higher educational institutions attend the one-day opening, a half-day mid-year progress, and end of the year half-day “harvesting” workshops. Faculty involved integrate teaching strategies into their plans for each semester. They carry out the plans, getting qualitative information on how students can learn critical thinking, compassion, and begin engagement for transformation.
The grant leaders, Dr. Sandy Guzman Foster, Dr. Dhawn Martin, and Sister Martha Ann Kirk gather and evaluate information at the end of each semester. The leaders will compile wisdom that can strengthen pedagogies for social justice and civic engagement to use for future teaching, to share with the Wabash Center, and to integrate with the city-wide Compassion Education Initiative.
