GNSS Ground Control Point Survey When ACCURACY Matters!!
303-680-3311Â
CompassData, Inc. was founded by Margaret J. Howard and W. Brant Howard in Centennial, Colorado in 1994 as part of the CompassCom family of companies. We were incorporated separately in November 2003 as a woman-owned small business led by President Margaret J. Howard. As the lead “Control Freak”, Mrs. Howard has led the CompassData company to collect over 60,000 Ground Control Points across six of the seven continents. We don’t have Antarctica…. Yet! CompassData is proud to offer the industries largest commercially available archive of Ground Control Points around the world! CompassData has worked with geospatial professionals in many industries and with our aerial experience and knowledge base for accuracy CompassData was led into the UAV business as well. In 2016, CompassData created a dba CompassDrone to serve our clients with the best mapping drone solutions in the industry as well. We specialize in collecting high-quality, spatially-accurate data for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications, photogrammetry, and remotely sensed data. And… we use the latest in Global Positioning System (GNSS) technology combined with years of field experience, along with a proven system, to ensure the accuracy and currency of our data.

Viewing detailed satellite images of objects on earth was once the province of government agencies, but it is now commonplace. Anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can look at satellite photos for free using services like Google Earth and Yahoo Maps. However, when zoomed in too close, these images become blurry. In addition, the preferred view of most objects is not directly from above.
As often occurs in the course of progress, one advancement leads to another. In this case, the widespread use of satellite imagery has created the need for ground control points photos to clarify what has been photographed from space. There are some new tools available to meet this need. The most well known is the "Street View" option available on Google maps. These images are captured by dedicated vehicles that traverse the roadways of major cities taking pictures on all sides along the way.

GCP SURVEY
LIDAR uses an optical remote sensing technology that operates similar to a triangulation scanner, measuring the properties of scattered light to detect the range (i.e. the physical data points) of an object. Like a triangulation scanner, which uses a laser to read a banded light pattern that reveals the surface area of a scanning subject from close distances, LIDAR technology pulses a laser to read properties of scattered light from long distances.Â
Land surveying is a scientific method used to precisely determine 3D (three-dimensional) or terrestrial position of points, angles and distances between them. These points are used to detect boundaries and land maps for governmental purposes or ownership. Surveyors typically utilize engineering, mathematics, law, physics and geometry to map and survey lands.
If you need a company that offers high tech aerial surveying technologies, a good place to look is among companies that offer laser scanning-also known as laser surveying. Often, a company that primarily advertises as a laser scanning service will also offer aerial surveying technologies that range from photographic technology to radar technology-a reflection of that fact that many of today's laser scanning providers were once providers of traditional surveying services, including aerial surveying, and gradually updated their data capture services as newer technologies become available. Below, we take at look at three types of air surveying offerings that are commonly found through companies that offer laser scanning services.
Modern high-tech drones or aerial flying machines are equipped with so many useful and amazing features that a person is left spellbound. They come with a mobile app or software application that allows a user to easily control their various functions and also make use of certain tools that make the overall experience more enjoyable, fruitful, and productive. Depending on the main function these machines perform, specific types have also been manufactured so that those who want them to achieve a particular purpose can make use of them. The benefit of these drones is that the person using it only has to learn a few specific functions to use them to his/her advantage. One such type of a drone is known as a "mapping drone". This drone is capable of providing you with real-time data of the land where your business practices are being carried out in order to inspect, analyze and execute.Â
RESOURCES
COMPASSDATA, INC. FILES
Mapping and aerial surveying is indispensable in land surveying. While the majority of the Earth's surface is photographed at a specific altitude to create maps, many techniques require a better view of the land at a larger scale, together with more accurate data points. These are created from satellite imagery, and helicopters or airplanes are used in taking land photos.
