Mr. Jacques is a long-time educator, serving as a teacher, instructional coach, principal, district leader and consultant. He is passionate about promoting equity through rigorous and relevant curriculum and has a track record of improving outcomes and opportunities for students. As Executive Director of Academics and Instruction in Oakland, CA, he led the district’s adoption and implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) by building coherent systems of professional learning, assessment and coaching. He also chaired the city-wide Strategic Planning Group on Early Literacy, building a shared vision of equitable literacy instruction and shifting district curriculum, practices and systems to align to the prevailing research. He has an M.A. in Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education from Stanford University (‘04), a B.A. in Elementary Education and Sociology from the University of Massachusetts (‘00), and a certificate in Improvement Science from the Carnegie Institute ('18). Mr. Jacques is married, a father of 3, and lives with his family in Oakland, CA.
