How We

The Community Dream School began with the following question given to the adult students of the Workplace Readiness

Program at Maui High:

“What would you include in a Dream School” where you could have anything you want?

Some of the typical responses given were:

Lots of Boys, Lots of Girls, Free Lunches

Video Games, Trips, Weight Lifting, Art,

Boxing, Music, Famous Visitors….

Additionally, Maui High Students had some unique and surprising responses like: “We don’t want any bells” and “No, principal!”

This brainstorming activity along with the basic common sense premise that students do not belong in high school for seven or eight years provided the foundation for the Innovative Grant Application which was submitted in January 2018.
