CAN WE SERVE YOU?
Our volunteers are NOT trained to provide tax preparation for the following tax situations:
Income more than $69,000 (See option for self-preparation)
Bought, sold or used virtual currency*
Complicated investments or many stock sales*
Rental property income *
Self-employment with inventory, business losses, business use of your home, employees/subcontractors, or depreciation*
Gross self employment of $12,000 or more from driving your car. *
Military income (click here for Military assistance)*
Cancelled debt other than personal credit card
Income from other countries or international organizations*
People in the U.S. on F, J, A, H, L, or M visas*
(if you are on an F or J visa, find resources here: ctadc.org/nr)People who arrived in the U.S. during 2025* (you may need to file as a dual status resident, make sure to find a tax preparer who understands how to do this correctly)

SELF PREP OPTION
Between late January and November 15th each year, you can prepare and file your own federal tax returns for free if your income is less than $89,000. For more information, go to: http://ctadc.org/file-online/
VIRTUAL ASSISTANCE OPTION
Virtual Preparation & Review (Feb 1-April 5)
With the virtual option, you will use a weblink to create an account, answer questions and upload documents into a secure environment (Get Your Refund). Volunteers will contact with you via text, email or phone (based on your preferences). After your return is completed, a Quality Reviewer will reach out to you to go over your tax return on the phone. You will receive the completed return electronically and electronically "sign" the return.
Before connecting with us virtually, make sure your tax situation is in scope for our program by answering a few questions.
