Topic Overview:
Even when adults want to approach children with a collaborative mindset, sometimes they find themselves encountering unexpected obstacles. Children who are used to "I'm the adult, so you'll do as I say" might have lost touch with their own self-autonomy or, conversely, might come to any conversation with an adult ready to fight. Kelsie Olds (the OccuPLAYtional Therapist) discusses how to empower children to become partners in devising creative solutions to adult-child problems in ways that help everybody get their needs met.
This community-building event is perfect for educators, therapists, and caregivers navigating children’s behaviour challenges.

Sara Wilson, MEd, is a passionate advocate for the belief that kids do well when they can. She is dedicated to transforming how children with behavioural challenges are understood and supported. Her mission is to promote inclusive environments by promoting neuro-inclusive practices, where every child is met where they are and treated with respect and dignity. In addition to having recently completed her Master of Education with a focus on Adult Learning and Neurodivergency, she is currently enrolled in the Applied Neuroscience for Educators Certificate at Butler University.
Sara is a mom of two and has lived experience supporting and advocating for neurodivergent family members. This experience has demonstrated that there is a radical shift needed in how we understand and support all kids, but especially neurodivergent children who are often discriminated against and misunderstood within their school communities. Kelsie is one of the first people Sara recommends when children need help regulating their big feelings but are on wait lists to see a local specialist.
