Key Learning Outcomes
The Community Defibrillator Awareness Course addresses the increasing availability of public Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), particularly in rural areas.
Despite their prevalence, many people lack confidence in using AEDs, although it is straightforward. Immediate, effective CPR coupled with prompt AED use can significantly enhance survival rates in cardiac arrest situations, potentially increasing survival chances by up to 80%. However, without these interventions, the current out-of-hospital survival rate for cardiac arrest remains low at 8%.
Key Topics Include:
Assessment of the situation (DR ABC)
CPR Adult & Child
The Chain of Survival
AED Access
AED Functions & Limitations
AED Safety
Adult & Paediatric Defibrillation
