For office workers seeking the most comfortable gaming headphones, the Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II wins because its noise-cancelling technology and lightweight build eliminate distractions during long work sessions. The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal is the runner-up, offering a superior wireless connection for Xbox users who need immersive surround sound without the physical bulk of a boom mic.
• Bose QuietComfort 35 — best for focused office work and hybrid use; pick this if you need to block out a noisy environment while switching seamlessly between calls and music.
• Bang & Olufsen Beoplay — best for high-fidelity audio and Xbox integration; pick this if you want lossless wireless sound and advanced voice clarity for team communication.
• Bang & Olufsen Beoplay — best for a sleek aesthetic and versatile connectivity; pick this if you prefer a different colorway that matches your workspace decor while maintaining premium build quality.
• EKSA Fenrir S Gaming — best for budget-conscious gamers needing large ear cups; pick this if you prioritize soft, deep cushions for glasses wearers and want a unique visual design.
The Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II represents a unique bridge between lifestyle audio and serious gaming. It is essentially a premium pair of noise-cancelling headphones that transforms into a dedicated gaming headset when you attach the removable boom mic module. This design philosophy makes it ideal for someone who spends their day in an open-plan office or a busy home setup where silence is rare. You can wear these all morning to focus on spreadsheets, then snap the gaming module onto the side jack in seconds to join a raid without missing a beat.
What truly sets this apart for daily wear is the material selection. The ear pads are wrapped in soft protein leather over plush foam, resting on a headband designed to distribute weight evenly. Unlike many rigid gaming headsets that clamp down hard, this model feels remarkably light, allowing you to wear it for marathon sessions without that familiar ache behind your ears. The active noise cancellation does the heavy lifting here, creating a virtual silence that lets you hear subtle audio cues in games or focus entirely on a conference call without raising your voice.
The PC desktop controller included with the set offers fluid volume control and four levels of mic monitoring, which helps prevent the "shouting match" scenario common in competitive play. However, there is a trade-off: the wired nature of the gaming module means you must plug into your device to access the boom mic features. While the Bluetooth mode handles music and calls perfectly, true gaming immersion requires that physical connection. If you are looking for a single device that acts as a high-end travel companion by day and a competent gaming headset by night, this is the logical choice.

The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal is engineered specifically for the Xbox ecosystem, yet it delivers a listening experience that transcends just one console. Its primary strength lies in the combination of adaptive noise cancellation and Dolby Atmos for Headphones, which creates a precise, spacious soundscape. For a gamer working from home who also wants to enjoy high-quality movies or music, this headset offers a level of audio fidelity that standard gaming gear simply cannot match. The memory foam earcups with jaw support are designed to reduce pressure points, ensuring the headset remains comfortable even after hours of continuous use.
One of the most innovative features is the virtual boom-arm created by beamforming microphone technology. Instead of a physical plastic arm extending from the earcup, four separate microphones blend to isolate your voice clearly while rejecting background noise. This is particularly useful in an office setting where you might be chatting with colleagues or taking a break, as the system adapts to your environment to keep conversations crisp. The touch controls allow for quick adjustments to mute or change volume without breaking your concentration, and the lossless wireless connection ensures zero latency issues when paired with compatible systems.
Despite its premium capabilities, there are considerations regarding battery life and versatility. While it runs for a full day of gaming, charging takes a couple of hours, and the reliance on specific wireless protocols means you might need dongles for non-Xbox PCs. Additionally, the lack of a physical boom mic might be a hurdle for some purists who prefer the tactile feedback of a traditional arm. Still, for those who value a clean look and top-tier sound quality above all else, the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay offers a sophisticated alternative to the typical bulky gaming headset.
Bang & Olufsen Beoplay
This second iteration of the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal brings a slightly different flavor to the table, primarily distinguished by its color and minor connectivity nuances. While the core performance remains identical to the previous version—featuring the same adaptive noise cancellation and immersive surround sound—the Grey Mist finish offers a more neutral aesthetic that blends seamlessly into modern office environments. It avoids the stark black look of many gaming peripherals, making it less conspicuous if you are wearing them during video conferences or while moving around your workspace.
The durability and build quality remain a standout feature, utilizing aluminum, leather, and rubber materials that feel robust yet refined. The headband padding is engineered to minimize clamping force, a critical factor for anyone who wears glasses or has a sensitive scalp. When combined with the memory foam earcups, the result is a pair of headphones that feels like a luxury accessory rather than a piece of tech gear. The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.1 enhances the stability of the wireless connection, reducing dropouts and improving the range compared to older standards.
However, the battery life on this specific configuration is slightly lower than some competitors, offering twelve hours of average life before requiring a recharge. For a user who works a standard eight-hour shift and plays for another two, this is usually sufficient, but heavy users might find themselves tethered to a charger sooner. Furthermore, the price point and the specific requirement for certain dongles to unlock the full potential on Windows PCs mean this is not a plug-and-play solution for every setup. Yet, if you prioritize style and acoustic precision, the visual appeal and soundstage make it a compelling option for the discerning buyer.
The EKSA Fenrir S Gaming headset takes a different approach, focusing on pure value and ergonomic comfort through larger, deeper ear cushions. Designed with a unique werewolf-inspired IP and monochrome lighting, it appeals to gamers who want a distinct visual identity that stands out from the crowd. The ear pads are notably soft and spacious, explicitly engineered to be glasses-friendly and to house the ears fully without pressure. This makes it an excellent choice for extended gaming marathons where physical comfort is the primary concern, especially for those who might find tighter clamping forces painful over time.
The rotatable noise-cancelling microphone is a practical highlight, allowing you to position the boom arm at a 120-degree angle to find the perfect spot near your mouth without fumbling. This flexibility ensures that your teammates hear you clearly while environmental noise is effectively filtered out. The one-key control feature simplifies management, letting you mute or adjust settings instantly, which is vital during intense moments of gameplay.
The main trade-off here is the reliance on a wired connection for the best audio experience and the heavier overall build compared to the ultra-lightweight options from Bose or Bang & Olufsen. At nearly half a kilogram, it feels substantial on the head, which some users might find tiring after several hours. Additionally, the RGB lighting, while visually striking, drains power if used extensively and might not suit a professional office environment where subtlety is preferred. Nevertheless, for those seeking a durable, comfortable, and feature-rich headset that doesn't compromise on the basics of sound and microphone quality, the EKSA Fenrir S delivers exceptional value.
