Privacy Policy

Square One (“the app”) is developed by Andrew Takao / Totsuka Studio (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. By using Square One you agree to this policy.
You can play the daily puzzles as a guest without an account, in which case we collect none of the account information below. If you choose to create an account or use certain features, we collect:
Account information — your email address and your username / display name, when you create an account or sign in with email, Google, or Apple. Optional — only if you make an account.
Identifiers — a user ID and an install identifier that let us keep your progress, streaks, and coins associated with you; standard device identifiers; and the device Advertising ID used for ads (see “Advertising” below).
Contacts — if, and only if, you choose to use “find friends from your contacts,” the app reads the email addresses and phone numbers in your address book, converts them into irreversible one-way hashes on your device, and sends only those hashes to our server to check which already match a Spiral account. The hashes are used for that check and are not stored. We never upload your actual contacts.
Approximate location — a coarse, city-level location (such as city, region, and country) that our servers derive from your device’s IP address when it connects. This is used to understand where our players are (analytics). It is not precise or GPS location, and we do not store your IP address itself.
App activity — gameplay activity such as which puzzles you open and complete, session length, streaks, and coins; and any optional feedback you submit (puzzle comments and difficulty / fun ratings).
Diagnostics — crash reports and performance / diagnostic data, so we can find and fix problems.
Some puzzles use your device camera or microphone during play (for example, the color and sound puzzles). This processing happens entirely on your device in real time — no photos, video, or audio are recorded, stored, or transmitted.
We use the information above to provide and operate the app, save your progress, run social features (friends and leaderboards), show ads, understand how the app is used, improve it, and keep it stable and secure. We do not sell your personal information.
Square One shows ads through Google AdMob. To serve ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and uses your device’s Advertising ID and related device information, which is shared with Google as an advertising partner. You can reset your Advertising ID or opt out of ad personalization at any time in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking). We use trusted third-party services to run the app. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes, except where noted:
Google Firebase (authentication, database, crash reporting / Crashlytics, messaging) — firebase.google.com/support/privacy
Supabase (account profiles, friends, leaderboards) — supabase.com/privacy
Google AdMob (advertising) — as described above, the Advertising ID and device data are shared with Google for advertising. support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app: Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, gameplay data, friends, and leaderboard entries from our systems. You may also request deletion by emailing us at hello@totsukastudio.com.
All data collected by the app is encrypted in transit (HTTPS / TLS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information.
Square One is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us at hello@totsukastudio.com and we will delete it.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the effective date above will be updated.
