Clinics/ QA

Per the rules of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, all livestock exhibitors (market and breeding livestock) must either attend a Quality Assurance Program (QA) or successfully test out of QA in order to exhibit livestock at the Columbiana County Junior Fair or the Ohio State Fair.

2024-25 QA Dates:

The following are a list of dates and times scheduled for Youth Quality Assurance Training. All youth exhibiting (Market and Non-Market Animals) at the Columbiana County Junior fair will need to attend a Quality Assurance except for Saddle Horse and Pocket Pet exhibitors. May not arrive more than 10 minutes late to get credit, and must sign in at the completion of the QA training. All QA trainings must be done at least 45 days before the start of the fair.

2025 QA topics will cover Good Production Practices 7, 8 and 9.

November 6 6:30pm CCCTC Auditorium (BQA-FOR BEEF PROJECTS- Steer Committee)

February 15, 2025: 9am: United HS.

February 22 10:30 am Robert Bycroft School (after Market Rabbit Clinic before Market Poultry Clinic)

February 22, 2025 at 10 AM: CCCTC after Turkey Clinic

April 12, 2025: 10 am: Govt. Bldg at the Fair

May 15, 2025: Goats: East Fairfield Church: 5:30 PM

Test out Guidelines:

Youth ages 12-14 years of age who pass the QA test out will need to retake the test when they reach the age of 15
Youth ages 15-18 years of age who pass the QA test can test out of their annual QA program permanently
All ages are based on a member's 4-H age (the age that they are as of January 1 of the current year)

Beef Projects: Any beef show, jackpot, or cattlemens educational event that occurs after the 2025 fair can count as a clinic for the 2026 year. Committee sponosored clinics will be posted laster. Send proof to Nicole. Beef: Keep in mind that you must have a steer purchased and tagged by Decemember 31, 2025 to show. Info will be coming out about tagging.

Skillathon and Book Grading Information

Goats: June : 9-noon: Fair Office: Bring completed books and complete the skillathon.

Lambs: Skillathon and Book Grading: July : 6-8 PM Fair Office & July 12th: 9-Noon: Government Building

Hogs: Skillathon Practice and Prep: June : 6-8 PM Hog Barn

Mandatory Book Grading and Skillathon: July 8, from 6-8 PM and July 12, 9-Noon: Arts and Crafts Building.

(Books must get graded one of these days!) Skillathon is not mandatory)
