The Colorado Chautauqua is a national historic landmark with a long tradition of hosting educational and intellectual events. It was originally opened in 1898 to provide a summer school location for Texan teachers as a part of the Chautauqua Movement of the late 19th Century—an adult education and social movement that positioned itself as an intellectual counterpoint to the “low brow” entertainment of Vaudeville. The Colorado Chautauqua is the only one west of the Mississippi that has been in continuous operation since its founding. Its location at the base of the Flatirons was chosen for its natural beauty and access to invigorating physical activities, such as hiking and climbing. Our plasma retreat plays a small part in carrying on the intellectual tradition of this important Colorado landmark!
Parking
There is free parking at the Chautauqua, though it fills quickly. Paid parking is available in the neighborhood across the street from the Chautauqua. Carpooling is encouraged. In addition, there is a free shuttle service that picks up at the CU Regent Park-n-Ride lot on campus.
