Game 4-12

Cutthroats Outlast Zombies

The Cutthroats got back on the winning track, but it wasn't pretty. The 'Throats were able to outlast the Zombies in a long game that failed to have any rhythm.

John Hawley started the bottom half of the first off with a double. Jimmy Herold would knock him in and Andy Daub hit Herold in to make it 2-0.

Ken Reichelt took the mound for the 'Throats; he sailed through the first two innings but got into trouble in the third. He gave up three runs in the third to make it 3-2.

In the bottom half, Cordo, Daub, and Bielecki would all hit singles to load the bases. Reichelt then hit a two-run single. Bielecki would then score on a fielder's choice.

The Zombies would answer back in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to retake the lead 7-5. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Cutthroats broke out. Cordo hit a two-run double. Bielecki got another base hit. Reichelt then followed with a two-run double. Reichelt would then score on an error, making the score 10-7.

With two outs and two runners on, the Cutthroats made a costly error that prolonged the inning. Reichelt couldn't calm down after that and he ended up giving up numerous hits and walks until Daub made the third out. At the end of the inning, the Cutthroats were down 12-10.

With time running out, the Cutthroats needed to step up and score some runs. In the bottom of the seventh, Hawley started off with a single, followed by a Wes Sconce walk. Herold then hit an rbi-single. Cordo would get intentionally walked to load the bases. What happened next would be one of the most controversial plays of the season. Mike Fay, a lefthander for the Zombies, stepped off with his left foot to make a throw with to third. The umpires declared a balk; Sconce would trot home to tie the game. After a protest from Zombies captain, he was tossed. Once the game got back underway, Daub would hit a sacrifice fly to center field to take the lead 13-12.

Andy Daub took over for Reichelt after six innings. He pitched a perfect seventh inning and now he was on to finish the game in the 8th. He would walk the first batter, but retired the next three-striking out two. The Cutthroats would win 13-12.

Daub would take Cutthroat of the Week honors with his winning sacrifice fly and his winning performance from the mound. The 'Throats would improve to (10-3) with the win.
