Cutthroats Continue Streak
The Colorado Cutthroats put their streak on the line against their American League foe-Carlos Gonzales Sports. Cargo Sports came into the game with a (6-1) record, their only loss was against the Cutthroats back in April.
The Cutthroats struck first in the second inning with a two out rally. Jon Bielecki and Mark Link both hit singles which put them on first and third. Jason Yarnell, the starting pitcher for Cargo Sports, didn't quite pause long enough in his set and was called for the balk, bringing in Bielecki for the first run of the game.
In the next inning, Any Daub led off with a bit by pitch. Wes Sconce followed with a single. Jimmy Herold then hit a single to bring in Sconce. Joe Cordo then hit a monster double to left field bringing in Sconce. With one out, Bielecki hit a sacrifice fly to center field bringing in Herold to make it 4-0.
With two outs in the top of the 4th, Daub hit a single. He then stole second base getting into scoring position. Sconce then hit a single to bring in Daub, making it 5-0.
Cargo Sports got one run back in the 4th. Dan Koons got on with a hit by pitch and Josh Rodriguez hit a scorching double to bring him in. The Cutthroats got out of the inning with a beautiful pickoff play at second base to get Rodriguez.
Cargo Sports had their own two-out rally in the 6th inning. Koons got on with a walk. Rodriguez followed with a grounder up the middle. Sconce fielded it but didn't know if he should throw it to second or first; he ended up overthrowing first base. Nick Motte then hit a single to bring in both runners, making it 5-3.
With two outs in the top of the 7th, Cordo hit a towering home run to left field. It was a "no-doubter" off the bat-typical Cordo fashion. It's his second home run of the year. Reichelt followed with a single up the middle, extending his hit streak to nine games.
Nobody else scored in the game. Mark Link got Cutthroat of the Week honors with a complete game five-hitter. He had one earned run with 13 strikeouts, three walks, and two hit by pitches. He is now (4-0) on the season, breaking the Cutthroats' franchise record for wins by a pitcher.
