Cutthroats Come Back!
The Colorado Cutthroats had their best comeback in franchise history on Sunday. In the bottom of the 9th, the Cutthroats came to the plate trailing 5-2. The Bad News Bears, a common foe for the Cutthroats, played solid defense all day to keep the "Throats off the board.
The Bad News Bears scored first with a lead-off solo home run by Jack Monark to left field. They would score again in the 4th inning with an rbi-single by Boyd Milhorn.
The Cutthroats would score their first run in the bottom of the 4th with a rbi-single by Joe Cordo. He knocked in Graham Baughn after he hit a double. In the bottom of the 5th, Baughn was thrown out at home, desperately trying to tie the game up. But the score remained 2-1 after six innings.
The Bears struck in the 7th. They led off with a single and a walk. Milhorn hit into a fielder's choice and then Tim Norkus hit a double to score a run. The Cutthroats could have gotten out of the inning with only one run, but a couple errors costed them two more.
Joe Cordo led off the 7th inning with a solo bomb to left center. This made the score 5-2. The Cutthroats wouldn't do anything else until the bottom of the 9th.
With only three outs remaining ini the game, Baughn led off with a single; Jimmy Herold followed with a single. Cordo stayed hot with a towering smash to right field that landed at the warning track. He would make it to third for the 2-rbi triple. Andy Daub then hit a sacrifice fly to center-tying the game up 5-5. With plenty of time left, the game headed to extra innings.
Baughn came in to relieve Ken Reichelt after seven innings. Baughn was still going strong in the 10th and he struck out 2 of the 3 batters to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 10th, Rich Tramazzo led off with a single. Kellen Sorauf reached by an error. Chris Dovey laid down a perfect bunt down the third base line that stayed fair for a base hit. With the bases loaded, John Hawley hit the walk off single to win the game 6-5. It was the first walk off in franchise history that didn't involve the mercy rule.
This was the Cutthroats' 4th win in a row-a franchise record.
