Game 4-03

Bison End Cutthroats' Perfect Season

It was a perfect season in its infancy. With two wins out of the gate, the Cutthroats were looking to tie their franchise record of three wins in a row. But that would not be the case, as the Bison took them down 5-4 at Brent Mayne Field.

The Cutthroats started the game out on the winning side. Jorge Fernandez lead the game off and reached first base on an error. Three batters later, Joe Cordo knocked him in with a rbi-triple. Two batters later, Jimmy Herold would hit Cordo in with a single, giving the 'Throats an early 2-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Cutthroats pitcher, Graham Baughn got into some trouble. The first two batters reached on singles, then the third batter walked to load the bases with zero outs. Baughn was able to strike the next two batters out, but right before he struck the third batter out, he threw a wild pitch that brought in a run to make it 2-2.

The Cutthroats retook the lead in the sixth inning. Fernandez knocked in John Hawley; Kellen Sorauf then hit in Baughn with a fielder's choice to make it 4-2.

The Bison answered back in the seventh inning with a double by Jeff Spira. Gerome Miller then hit a single to bring in Spira-tying the game at 4 runs. Democmet, Garcie, and Diaz all walked to bring in the go-ahead run at 5-4.

Jeff Spira came in to pitch the last three innings for the Bison, and he was lights out. He faced ten batters and struck out five without giving up a hit.

The Cutthroats made one last effort in the ninth. Andy Daub went deep into the at bat and pulled out a walk. He then stole second base to get into scoring position. With Joe Cordo coming to the plate with two outs and the tying run on, you couldn't have asked for a better scenario. But Cordo just missed it and hit a towering pop fly to the catcher to end the game.
