The Cutthroats started their 2015 season with a new opponent on Sunday. Carlos Gonzalez Sports is a new team in the 25 wood division. Last year they played in the 18 A Wood division.
Game time was 9:00 am and calm, but after an hour the winds started to pick up-reaching speeds up to 30 miles per hour. Even with the wind blowing out, nobody put one out of the park.
In the second inning, Mark Link got himself into a jam, walking three batters in a row. He struck out the next batter, but then Mike Ventimiglia hit a sac fly to center to bring in the season's first run. The Cutthroats escaped out of the inning only giving up one run.
In the bottom of the third, Link lead off with a walk and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Wes Sconce hit him in to tie the game up 1-1.
In the next inning, Ken Reichelt and Jimmy Herald got back to back singles. Herald advanced to second on a passed ball. With both runners in scoring position, Link hit a 2-run double down the left field line to take the lead 3-1.
After six innings of pitching, Ken Reichelt came in for Link to finish the game. Reichelt didn't have any trouble until the last out. With two outs, Cargo Sports hit back to back singles to bring the score to 4-3. With runners on first and second, Rodriguez hit a sharp grounder to third, Sconce scooped it up and stepped on third to end the game.
Mark Link took Cutthroat of the Week honors with great performances from the mound and the plate.
