Cutthroats Fall Short to End Season
The Cutthroats were on the losing end of one of the most crazy-intense baseball games ever witnessed. The drama started early with a play at the plate. Cutthroats' third baseman, Andy Daub, made a great play running down Matt Hiddle of the Chill at home. Words were exchanged, which resulted in the umpire warning both teams to keep it quiet.
Later in the 5th inning, Joe Cordo hit a double which brought Daub storming for home. The Chill's catcher, Matt Hiddle, was waiting for the ball at home. He caught the ball right when Daub was breaking to the plate. The ball was knocked out of the catcher's mitt and went to the backstop. Hiddle immediately started to complain to the umpire that Daub 'needed' to slide by rule. The umpire was not interested in the complaint. While this was going on, Cordo continued to run around the bases until he ended up scoring! Giving the Cutthroats a 5-1 lead.
After the 6th inning, the Chill were able to tie the game back up at 6 apiece. Mark Link fell behind in the 7th inning with a walk and then giving up a double to center field that went off of Sorauf's glove. James Hiddle then hit a towering shot to left field for a two-run home run to make it 8-5. While hitting the home run, Hiddle let out a huge yell that lasted three seconds. Link did not like this unsporting act one bit. Link retaliated by following Hiddle around the bases while yelling profanities at him.
The Cutthroats started the 8th inning with a single by Jorge Fernandez, followed by a walk by Wes Sconce. Daub then hit a bases clearing double to make the score 8-7. Cordo followed with a single that could potentially bring in Daub to tie the game. With an even closer play at the plate than the one in the 5th inning, Daub was called out. Small words were exchanged between Daub and Hiddle, which resulted in Daub being tossed by the umpire.
In the bottom of the 8th, James Hiddle came to bat again with two outs. Link-who was still fired up from Hiddle's previous at-bat-was waiting. After some wild pitches and some wild words, the umpire threw Link out of the game. Matt Esquibel came into finish the at-bat. Hiddle drew the walk, but the next player popped to the shortstop-ending the inning.
The Cutthroats lead the 9th off with a walk, but the next three batters were retired in order to end the game.
