Collierville Schools

Physical Education & Wellness Resources

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools will be closed through Friday, April 24th. This page is designed to provide students in grades Pre-K-12, as well as their families, an opportunity to stay active during this time away from school.

Our beliefs as a district is that Physical Education is the academic building block that presents students with the opportunity to grasp the concept of how the body works in relation to movement and motor skills. Physical Activity is the application component. It allows the student the chance to take what was learned in the Physical Education setting and apply it in a real world setting (i.e. recess, sports, or outdoor recreation). It is through Physical Education and Physical Activity that students are able to explore, evaluate, and learn just how their bodies move. This is the point where they can arrive at the conclusion of how to apply different movements and concepts in order to become independent thinkers and independent doers which, in turn, heightens their ability to participate in physical activity for a lifetime.

The Collierville Schools Physical Education program is a comprehensive program that is standards based and objective driven. The Physical Education program is based on 5 main components, which are; Physical Education, Physical Activity, Before & After school programs, Staff Involvement, and Family and Community Engagement. It is through these components that we are able to deliver a program that meets the needs of all leaners and reach the whole child. Through regular physical activity and Physical Education, students will be equipped with the skills needed to develop life-enhancing and self-rewarding experiences that contribute to their ability to be healthier members of society. Students are challenged to participate in daily activities that will augment their health choices. The intent is to provide a variety of health-enhancing activities in an attempt to foster lifelong active individuals.
