Explore Colleges & Universities:
🎓Learn about your options of education after high school and explore college websites .
🎓Take virtual tours of campuses all over the world!
🎓Begin to make a list of colleges that you're interested in learning more about.
Learn:
When you're creating something from legos,
do you start at the top and then work your way to the bottom?
No, that wouldn't work at all!
You have to start at the bottom and then build on top of each section
until you reach the top. That's how school is too!
You have to start in Kindergarten and learn everything you can,
so that the next year you can build your skills up even more!
If you fall behind, it will make the next year harder.

What if you're falling behind? Talk to your teacher & your grown up and ASK FOR HELP!
Explore Colleges & Careers:
🎓Start making college & careers a family discussion!
🎓Ask your Grown Ups to help you search the internet for local colleges & universities, and maybe take some family trips to local campuses for a tour!
🎓Ask your Grown Ups to learn more about careers WITH you. You can take interest inventories together, interview other family members and maybe even "shadow" professionals by spending a day at work with them!
Educate Yourself:
Academics are always important!
If you don't understand or are falling behind, don't wait to ask for help.
Getting help right away can make a big difference.
Everyone struggles with things and mistakes are okay.
Just DON'T GIVE UP!!
Plan to do the following:
➡YOUR FIRST YEAR, make an appointment to talk to your School Counselor to share your goals, your interests & make a plan to help you be successful in middle school.
➡Begin to look into extra-curricular activities. These are activities outside the classroom such as playing sports, creating art, being a part of clubs, acting in plays, and so many more!
➡Work on your time management skills- use a planner to schedule all your activities & work, then use alarms to help keep you on track.
➡Learn how to take notes! Classes like AVID can help with this or you can ask your school counselor for study habit tips.
➡YOUR LAST YEAR, meet with your counselor again to plan the classes you need in High School that will take you on the path toward you future college.
Explore Colleges & Universities
🎓Attend College Fairs and learn more about college/university options available. Each college has different education requirements in order to be accepted.
🎓It's important to know the admission requirements so you make sure to have them in your schedule, this is where you need to make sure your School Counselor knows your plans and puts you in the right classes.
🎓Do the colleges you're interested in have your major? What are they looking for in a applicant?
🎓Begin to look at the cost of the colleges you're interested in. Remember to talk to your counselor about financial aid and scholarships.
Educate Yourself:
Take your education seriously, it will impact the rest of your life.
Grades are important, but perfection isn't necessary.
Remember if you're struggling in a class, get help right away!
Plan to do the following:
➡Continue to work on developing the skills you worked on in Middle School such as note taking, time management & extra-curricular activities.
➡EVERY YEAR make an appointment to talk to your School Counselor to share your goals, your interests & make a plan to help you be successful in high school and set up the classes you need for college.
➡Get involved in additional extra-curricular activities that your high school provides such as special club
➡Take the PSAT and SAT
➡Research college costs with your Grown Ups and School Counselor
➡Take Advanced Placement (AP) classes if possible
➡Apply to colleges (remember there are different deadlines for all schools)
