To help our young students stay engaged & learn all they need to know about your career,
we've provided suggestions below.
You certainly do not have to include everything though!
The recommended length of video is approximately 5-15 minutes.
FAQ's
Recording from a phone can be the easiest way!
You can prop it up and talk in front of it, and then take it with you to tour your work environment.
There are free video teleprompter apps you can paste a script into and it will record you as you read it.
Just be sure to be animated so it doesn't sound like you're reading 😉.
The easiest way for us to recieve your video would be for you to upload it onto a Google Drive and then share the link with us.
Please make sure to give us complete editing permissions so we are able to share the video as well.
Show your face, they want to see who you are and will respond more to your body language & facial expressions than they would from only hearing your voice.
Be active! Move around, show items you use in your line of work, give a tour of your work space.
Keep your voice animated! We are more subdued when we talk to adults, but kids love to hear excitement, laughter, or joy in our tone and they will respond to it!
You can do what feels comfortable. If you're stuck, here is a great way to lay out your content:
Pique curiosity- hook them at the beginning w/ a quick story or introduce yourself
The outcome ("in this video I'll share with you...")
Testimonial (share a little background of how you came into your profession)
Career information (share the actual education about your career)
CTA (Call to Action- what could they be doing now to help them if they are interested in a career like yours)
All videos submitted will be added to this website and viewed by all elementary schools in Alvord Unified. Please be generic in your video instead of mentioning specific people or schools.
These videos will also be used for many years so try to not mention the current year in the video as well.
Thank you for your interest!
We would LOVE to share about your career with our students!
