In January 2021, my presidency began amidst stark reminders about the importance of our work as musicians and music educators as we strove to create a more joyful, inclusive, and connected world. A global pandemic shuttered our classrooms and concert halls. The public execution of George Floyd reminded us of the inequities we can witness in society and within our Society. And a divisive election spotlighted what can happen when we decide difference is dangerous.

The stars of tomorrow are on stage today at CU Boulder. The students of the College of Music present degree qualifying recitals which are free and open to the public for in-person attendance. Most are also available to stream live from the comfort of your home!

With our top-tier, comprehensive education in music and access to a world-class university, the College of Music produces the strongest musicians, offering the best performance opportunities and encouraging our students to excel in their musicianship and their studies. Our outstanding performance opportunities keep the University of Colorado Boulder and our community culture vibrant and connected to the world.

Students have access to a range of online and in-person resources. Current music students can access student services, sign up for advising, schedule a degree recital and learn about musician health and safety.

We facilitate robust relationships between our students and the greater community to create global, service minded artist-citizens. By sharing their music education, our students provide underserved and under-resourced communities with meaningful access to and inclusion in the arts.

When the first student at a college or university joins or renews their NAfME membership, specifying the school name and the state where the school is located (not the student state of residence), that university chapter is activated for the year!

Collegiate Kickoff Week is a celebration of the student members of NAfME. This week is focused on recruiting and team building activities implemented and shared by each NAfME Collegiate chapter. Kickoff Week offers members the opportunity to highlight their local programs and membership; participate in service and volunteer events; and benefit from national virtual programming. Chapters will plan activities each day with social media promotion centered on a daily focus connecting to their state, division and national associations.

The annual Collegiate Advocacy Summit and Hill Day is held in June in the Washington, DC area. This multi-day event includes an orientation to advocacy, legislative visits on Capitol Hill alongside NAfME state and national leaders, and intensive leadership training, plus numerous networking opportunities with student advocates and NAfME leaders. Participants will take back valuable information and experience to share with their chapters and use in their careers for years to come. Check back this fall for updates.

The Chapter of Excellence Recognition, Professional Achievement Award, and Shannon Kelly Kane Scholarship offer acknowledgement of the work and accomplishments of chapters and individual students each year.
