Welcome ...
and thank you for stopping by.
I’m Colleen Daniels, host of MSMS: The Many Stories of Multiple Sclerosis podcast — where people with MS share their real-life stories: the good, the bad, the ups, the downs, the highs, the lows, and everything in between.
Initially created to share untold MS stories of undergoing HSCT, the podcast has evolved to explore many aspects of life with MS. In doing so, it not only raises awareness but helps us all feel less alone.
While based on the NSW Central Coast in Australia, people all round the country who live with MS are welcome to share their journeys so we can learn, connect, and through our stories strengthen support for further research, as well as build on the push to eradicate this horrid, chronic, lifelong, progressive, disabling disease (I know that’s a lot of words — but MS is relentless, and the future needs a cure.)
But many of us discover new strength and go on to build rich, fulfilling lives from what begins as something we fear.
MS changes things — but through community, story, and shared hope, many of us find we can and do live boldly, and with purpose, nonetheless!
MY STORY
Before the MSMS podcast became a place for many voices, it started with my own.
In 2017, with my husband at my side, I began a journey toward HSCT to try to halt the progression of my MS.
What followed was far beyond anything I or my husband - or anyone - could have imagined.
While the result has been amazingly positive the experience shook us - and our entire family - in ways none of us could have prepared for. The journey was long.
Through it all, my husband’s steadiness held me together while I was undeniably fragile yet had little knowledge of any actual threat. His incredible strength carried him too, as he faced obstacles few could even imagine.
Against all odds — through the committed and tireless efforts of medical professionals, the love surrounding us, sheer fortitude, and something greater than we can name — we were given a miracle.
That entire experience is why today I do what I do, this podcast is one of the ways I ‘give back’; to help others with MS, by sharing stories; to let others know they’re not alone.
If there’s something I’ve learned through my MS journey, it’s that strength often shows up in unexpected ways - and hope can return when we least expect it.
I’m just one person, with one story. But now, through this podcast, I’m honoured to meet and share the voices of others living remarkable MS journeys. My story is the very first episode - I invite you to listen as my husband and I tell it together.
