My Teaching Philosophy
My approach to music education centers on empathy, individuality, and the deeply personal nature of making music. Unlike many other subjects, singing and playing an instrument require vulnerability, so I prioritize truly knowing my students and honoring their unique identities, experiences, and voices. I work to create a safe, supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, expressing themselves, asking questions, and making mistakes as part of the learning process. By connecting repertoire to their emotions, cultures, and lived experiences, students develop a stronger sense of ownership and passion for their work. In this space, I position myself as a lifelong learner alongside them, recognizing that we grow together through collaboration and reflection. Ultimately, I emphasize that music is not about perfection, but about meaningful expression, personal growth, and developing the confidence and empathy needed to engage with the world beyond the classroom.Â
