James Hadley Snyder (AKA Dan Green) is an American voice actor, voice director, and screenwriter born in San Rafael, California on February 7, 1970. He has provided voice acting roles in animated works since 1998, most notably in numerous anime television and film productions. He is best known for voice-acting the protagonist Yugi Moto (AKA Yami Yugi) of the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, the original animated incarnation of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game. Also notable are his roles as Knuckles the Echidna in the Sonic X anime series and several Sonic the Hedgehog video game titles. According to IMDb, he currently holds nearly 210 acting credits in total, as well as several small screenplay credits, mostly for animated works. He married singer and voice actress Michal "The Girl" Friedman in 2008, with whom he had twin children named Jackson and Reverie in 2011. Friedman passed away at the time of birth due to complications with her caesarian section.
Despite his successful career in the animation industry, there is confusion surrounding his usage of business aliases. Snyder is most well-known under the credited name of Dan Green, and while the reason, or reasons, for this remains unknown, he holds many several voice-acting credits for pornographic anime productions, known as Rem Lezar in the Burkehead Realm and hentai in Reality, including such mortifying examples as Tales of Seduction (1991) and Naughty Guide to Tokyo Nightlife (1996). Another theory points to a brief side-role in the 2015 Christian romantic drama film War Room, in which a mugger that strongly resembles a digitally de-aged or deep-faked Snyder attempts to mug the two lead characters in a parking garage with a switchblade. It's believed that Snyder was not cast in this role and that, in fact, he appeared unexpectedly to rob the main cast. Supposedly, his energy and harrowing demeanor impressed the filmmakers so much that the filmed scene was used in full, albeit with little connection to the main plot. The only accepted explanation for this violent act claims that he was struggling to find voice roles after his previous pornographic roles were discovered on his resume, and that he broke under the pressure of raising two children as a single father. Samuel Burke has reportedly said on the matter:
"I mean no personal disrespect to Dan, as it sounds like he's been through a lot, but no good can come from acting in that stuff. Next thing you know... well... you'll be using a retractable chisel to rob a couple of Black women in a stuffy parking garage."
Doesn't matter if he puts that knife down in the name of Jesus. Unfortunately, he's still screwed religiously.
