CogNIRS
What happens in your head when you:
- Plan a meal?
- Talk to a friend?
- Go shopping?
- Share a joke or a sad story?
What happens when the brain systems supporting these everyday activities go wrong?
Traditional functional neuroimaging modalities (including fMRI, PET and EEG) have paved the way to our understanding of the basic cognitive processes relating to these activities. Advances in such technology allow us to move on from reductionist laboratory experiments - translating this work into realistic, everyday environments, and even clinical contexts. Examining rich, real-world data is possible with the development of wearable, and portable, devices.
The CogNIRS group are pioneering fNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy) as a new brain imaging method that will allow us to investigate the cognitive processes accompanying behaviour in real-world contexts.
