The Council of First Knowledge regularly puts out applications to become an Apprentice of First Knowledge. Many are confused as to what this position entails, and this page aims to elaborate on the organization, duties, and expectations of the Apprentices of First Knowledge.
The Apprentices of First Knowledge do not utilize ranks, instead they follow roles:
Observer (default for all starting AoFKs)
Pass Apprentice of First Knowledge applications
Be accepted into the Council of First Knowledge group and Discord
Council Aide
Serve as an Observer for at least two weeks
Regularly meet quotas
Show off your skills as much as possible
Optionally, befriend the Councilor you think you want to work under
The Apprentices of First Knowledge fall under the direct control of the Council, but they are overseen by a specific Councilor who is known as the Apprenticeship Coordinator. It is this Councilor's job to ensure all Apprentices are doing their jobs, meeting quotas, and maintaining high esprit de corps.
The Apprentices themselves fall into one of two categories: aides, and observers.
Aides work directly under a Councilor and help them with any group-related tasks that may come up. This could be something as simple as attending an event in the Councilor's place, or helping the Councilor organize their documents. Aides are chosen at the discretion of the Councilors, though it is typically only a role afforded to an Apprentice who has been with the Order for some time and has proven reliable time and time again in carrying out their duties.
Observers carry out broader roles in supporting the Order as a whole. They are typically assigned a specific area of focus, some examples being the Jedi Academy, Jedi Service Corps, Knight Trials, and Youngling Training. The purpose of an observer is to collect information on the various educational aspects of the Order and ensure that regulations are being followed and the right to a quality education is not being infringed upon by insufficient instructors.
Duties will vary from Apprentice to Apprentice, but all Apprentices follow the same system for completing their duties. The quota system ensures that Apprentices maintain a certain activity level. This is not an easy position to earn, and so it should not be an easy one to keep either. Those who can perform the duties well will have a bright future in the Order.
Most observers are required to observe five events per week, though locally the amount may vary depending on the area an Apprentice is assigned to. For example, an Apprentice observing Knight Trials probably won't be able to observe as many sessions as an Apprentice observing Youngling Training because there aren't as many Knight Trial events hosted as there are Youngling events. Because of this, the Coordinator may adjust quotas as he or she sees fit. It is worth noting that once an Apprentice has completed their quota, they are not allowed to do extra work. This is to allow other Apprentices a chance to observe events, because two Apprentices may not observe the same event. In the event an observer fails to meet quota without a leave of absence or inactivity notice ahead of time, they are given a strike. After two strikes, an Apprentice is removed from the program.
Aides follow a different set of rules, and their quota is simply a confirmation check with the Councilor they are assigned to. If the Councilor is satisfied with the Apprentice's work, they get to remain an aide. In the event an aide does not perform satisfactorily, they are bumped back down to observer and replaced with another Apprentice.
