Because the Council is too often viewed as the one that isn't as fun to be a part of, or worse simply as "the lore one" to some miscreants in the Order, the Master of First Knowledge felt it was important to create a way for the Council to create a more direct impact in the Order. The idea was unanimously approved, and so The Jedi Informative was born.
The Jedi Informative is a division of the Council of First Knowledge that has two key functions. The first is to host community events for the entire Jedi Order, providing a fun distraction from the work that everyone is usually so immersed in. The second is to serve as the Order's weekly newsletter, keeping everyone up to date on what the Councils and their divisions are doing, informing everyone of any leadership changes that may have occurred, and serving as the Order's bulletin board for things like applications, events, and announcements. There is also a section of the Informative dedicated to sharing fun facts and short lore stories for those who are interested. The Jedi Informative is overseen by a Director, who is typically the Master of First Knowledge. The Council of First Knowledge serves as the paper's publishing board and makes sure that the paper and its information is always of good quality.
If you'd like to read the Informative or submit an application, you can do so at their website.
The Jedi Informative does not utilize ranks, instead we follow roles like the Apprentices. Both roles require passing the application as their only hard requirement. Everything else here is just advice on keeping your rank once you get it.
Event Staff (outside of volunteering to help with events - this is for full-time JI members)
Pass the application, ticking event staff as your choice
Help coordinate events as often as possible
Reach out to other members of the Order and poll them about the kinds of events they'd like to see hosted
News Team
Pass the application, ticking news team as your choice
Contribute to the newsletter no less than one section per week
Preferably, have some background in the Librarian's Assembly or other writing career
The Informative maintains a small team of staffers for planning and executing events. The team can consist of members of any rank in the Order, and the number of members fluctuates based on the season and the scale of the event being planned. The Director personally oversees this subdivision and its members are typically volunteers who have expressed interest in hosting the events in question. Unlike the news team, the event staffers do not have to get clearance from the Council of First Knowledge before hosting an event. The only person whose approval is required is the Director's. If you are interested in working in the events team, check our contact page and get in touch!
The more permanent of the two teams, the News Team works to gather information and write the newsletter before each publication. Typically, there's one member of the team per section of the paper, but sometimes a section may have multiple authors. The Informative outsources for information at times, and usually requests a report from Council Ambassadors of the Lower Councils in order to ensure information is as accurate as possible. The news team runs their final product through the Council of First Knowledge before it is published each week in order to receive feedback and make any corrections deemed necessary by the Council.
The Jedi Informative is also involved with writings and publishings of official guides and journals within The Grand Jedi Order.
