Clyde and Shannon (K7MUA)
Clyde's "Smart Phone"
Clyde was first Licensed as KN7AVX in 1957 then K7AVX in 1958.
He was transferred to Kentucky in 1963 and received the call WA4PVC.
He returned to Washington State in 1965 and applied for his old call of K7AVX and found that it would cost $25 to get that call back. He didn't have the $25 spare at that time so he just let the FCC assign a new call and they gave him W7CZA.
Clyde spent 31 years with IBM corporation working first as a service technician in the electric typewriter division and then spent 3 years as an instructor. He finished that career as a field manager retiring in 1990.
January 1, 2020 Update
Clyde was ham radio inactive for several years due to family health issues with the exception of some VHF and a local HF net on 75m. A friend helped him put up a 6 band trap vertical and he have begun to bring back the old skills. Operated SKN today and found that his stiff old "glass arm" needs much practice. Clyde sends apologies to Terry, K5TDA for the poor performance and thanks for his patience with his fist!
Here's hoping for some good CW in 2021. His New Year's resolution is to work at least one CW contact a day to build up his skills to an acceptable level.
February, 2021 Update
So much for the 2020 resolution! He did manage a few CW contacts though and his skills are coming back. His current operation is leading an on-air CW class for hams in the Spokane/North Idaho area. There is renewed interest in CW now that it is no longer a requirement but has become a learned skill. He thanks those who are participating and to fellow hams who are helping with the class and especially to Larry, N7FM who has modified his repeater program to accommodate the CW class.
He hopes to see you on CW soon!
