Retired. Here to make friends, and keep my mind active learning new stuff.
Prineville, Oregon is about 2900' above sea level, with elevations rising on all sides. Hunting, shooting, reloading, welding, motorcycling, I ride with Patriot Guard when I can,and now HAM.

Lately have been studying FLDigi, but I'm really more interested in voice. Studying CW, progress is slow, as my old ears are dull.
For HF, IC-7300, Heil Pro 7 with Electret mic element (4/12/2021 it's awesome), MFJ-1026 Noise Canceling Signal Enhancer, IT-100 Tuner, and Hustler 6BTV, 100' RG8, just running the 100 watts in the radio, since early May, 2020.
Yaesu 400XDR/DE for 2 meter/70cm, through Comet GP-9. photo at bottom, Added April, 2021.
Mobile, using IC7100, Mobile, (sometimes with FTM 400XDR ), with Tarheel LT-II. Added May - Sept. 2021. Tarheel (Left)
This is my current setup, things are rearranged now with the addition of the noise canceler, Heil headphones. The headset, a Heil Pro 7, makes the 7300 come alive, using the electret mic element with the correct adapter.
Upload to LOTW usually early in the month for previous month.
The Hustler 6BTV is mounted on a modified trailer tongue jack. That way with no tools, I can pull the pin, rotate the 17lb. antenna 90 degrees left and lock it if I want to or lean on a sawhorse. Adjustments made easy. Or if lightning is nearby, I can lower this antenna in less than a minute. Going up is the reverse. The ropes are just for guying against the wind that moseys though here once in a while.
At first, I didn't think I had room to properly install radials, so I put down 250 square feet of 1" chicken wire in the gravel. I've since pushed radials under the shed to the west, The chicken wire is gone altogether now, as I've added more 8-10' radials, totalling 21. Added a homebrew aluminum frame around the base of the antenna with numerous bolts to fasten the radials. Having QSOs on the east coast, Texas, Hawaii, Florida, Oklahoma, Colorado, SOCAL, Slovenia and Finland while using the chicken wire. I'll be testing to see whether the radials improve the station performance. So far, it's been very good. To early to tell if it's really better than the chicken wire. It is at least as effective maybe better. 20 meter is already quieter. It will certainly allow me to walk around the area without tripping, and the gates will open with far less difficulty!
Since acquiring a RigExpert analyzer, I've retuned to the antenna with good results.
