Coding for Art

KSU Summer Camp 2023

Date: Jun 26-30, 2023 | Grades 6-8 | Instructor: Dr. Jack Zheng

In this “Coding for Arts” summer camp, kids will learn to draw digital pictures through computer coding techniques. It is a unique experience with computer coding applied to energize kids’ artistic talent and creativity. We will draw directly in browsers using a web programming and graphics language (SVG).

The camp starts with painting fundamentals of shape, size, position, and color with simple projects. Eventually it expands to techniques of transformation and animation, with middle school mathematics concepts applied (geometry, coordinates system, algebra). Participants’ artworks will feature both logic and creativity. Example work can be viewed in camp summary and final showcase.

Welcome kids from grade 6 to 8. Participants should have basic knowledge and familiarity with computer (browser) operations. Participants need to register an online account for the coding tools and resources.
