CODE research fellows are also faculty members of the Unit of Economic Analysis of the Department of Economics and Economic History at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Research fellows are organized along two broad research groups. These groups are roughly divided by topic under two main areas: Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Each of the two groups contains those fellows that belong to the same AGAUR-SGR grants in 2023.

CODE was founded in 1995 as a Special Research Center of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) by ten faculty members from the Unit of Economic Analysis of the Department of Economics and Economic History. The creation of CODE reflected the growing research strength of the Unit in microeconomic theory and the desire to formalize a space for collaborative and internationally visible research. During its early years, the center became a focal point for academic exchange in Barcelona, hosting regular seminars and workshops that brought leading theorists to the UAB. Over time, CODE established itself as one of Spain’s first institutional initiatives dedicated specifically to theoretical and applied microeconomics, laying the foundations for what would later evolve into the broader research community now connected through the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE).
