The Rdio Scanner is similar to other scanner apps, but much more.
The Rdio Scanner will listen to all channels / talkgroups and when it receives a transmission it will place it in que and play it on your device in the order it was received. This means transmission from other channels will not be missed because they are queued. In the upper left corner of the app you will see Q: with a number after it, this tells you how many transmissions are in que.
The Rdio URLs can be played directly from a web browser but I prefer the App.
Once you download the app, go to settings and slide the “Server URL” screen to the far right to “Add a new server”. You can add multiple servers by sliding the Server URL page.
For ALCO and CoCo EBRCS systems enter the following Server URL: http://ebrcs.firescanner.net. More servers are listed below.
Once you enter the server URL click the Connect button and arrow back to the main scanner page or click dismiss.
Click “LIVE FEED” to turn the system on.
Click “SELECT TG” to select what you want to listen to.
The top section of the TALK GROUP page gives you the ability to turn “Groups” off/on. Example: If I hit “01-SRM FIRE” in the upper left, it will turn red and turn off all the San Ramon Fire channels below in the Contra Costa County Section. You can scroll down and turn individual channels back on. If you do that the “01-SRM FIRE” will turn orange telling you some channels in that group are muted.
When I don’t want to listen to a lot of traffic but know when there is something big going on, I mute EMS, HOSPITAL, XAL DISP, and XCC DISP. With it set up like this, any time something big occurs they always go to a TAC/CMD channel and I hear what is going on. You can also hit the OFF or ON button in the bottom right and this will reset everything.
Description of buttons
When active, incoming audio will be played according to the active systems/talkgroups on the SELECT TG panel.
Temporarily maintain the current system in live feed mode.
Temporarily maintain the current talkgroup in live feed mode.
Replay the current audio from the beginning or the previous one if there is none active. Press repeatedly to replay items displayed in the history section. For example, press three times to replay the third history item.
Stop the audio currently playing and play the next one in the listening queue. This is useful when playing boring or encrypted sound.
Activate and deactivate the talkgroup from the current or previous audio. Pressing the AVOID button multiple times when on the same call will go through AVOID -> AVOID 30M -> AVOID 60M -> AVOID 120M where the last ones will be AVOID for a specific number of minutes.
Stop playing queue audio. Useful if you have to answer the phone without losing what’s queued up for playing.
Display the systems/talkgroups selection panel where you decide
which audio you want to listen to in LIVE FEED mode, not in playback mode.
Display the archived audio panel. If you narrow the search criteria you can listen to an old call very easily. I found it helps to turn off LIVE FEED before playing from the search area and then change the search to Ascending. Example: To listen to a fire in Contra Costa County it helps to know the talk group they were on but if not know you can filter the search by as much as you do know. Click on “Search Call”, scroll down to the bottom and select Ascending, select the date and start time, select Contra Costa County, select the Talkgroup if known or select the group. Then use the arrows above to find the correct time and then hit play on the left. The transmissions will start playing in a row. You can only download audio from the web browser.
