Design Thinking

What is Design thinking?

Design thinking is a processes that can help me get other people's opinions to improve my own idea/project. Design thinking is a method of being able to think deeper. This is important because you can add to your ideating skills. Understanding design thinking for secondary school might be important because so you could come up with more ideas with many projects.

STAGE 1-Empathise- understand what others think about a problem

After learning more about my interest and sharing my knowledge through learning/teaching slides, I created a padlet through which I interviewed people. I asked them questions for their perspectives on my chosen interests-Recycling.

Conclusion-

  1. People need to be aware that they need to sort their rubbish before throwing.

  2. There aren't enough recycling bins.

  3. There isn't enough awareness of recycling.

  4. Even when people sort the rubbish, it is still taken away all together.

  5. The government needs to set up more facilities for proper recycling to happen.

STAGE 2-Define- come up with a problem to solve

Next, I defined the problem based on my interviews and what I see is an important issue. My defined problem is that the majority of people don't have awareness/respect for recycling.

This problem is meaningful because if you spread awareness more people will give attention to it and things might start to change for the better.

STAGE 3-Ideate

During the Ideate stage, I was looking for solutions to my defined problem. My 3 best ideas were-

1.Make a poster about the benefits of recycling and why is it important.

2.I could be active and set up a club to show them how to sort out different rubbish.

3.I could start a signature campaign online to persuade to my school to recycle MORE effectively.

In the end the idea I chose is to make a poster to spread awareness because this the effective thing I can do during this time. And because awareness is the first step to trying to solve issues.

STAGE 4-Prototype

Now that I have a solution, I can try and make a plan to solve the defined problem. I have decided to create a poster, this will make my project better because I will be able to share facts in a creative way and write down all the benefits of recycling so people can read the information easily.

Stage 5 - Test

The testing processes allows people to give feedback on the prototype. As a designer I can act on this feedback,to ensure that my product is a success.

This is a padlet for me to get feedbacks on my poster of recycling:
