A place where everyone belongs.
Cochrane Elementary School Families:
Our school has an SBDM (School-Based Decision Making) council that consists of our principal, Mrs. Fuller, and a variety of elected teachers and parents. This council is in charge of making important decisions about how the school operates and together they support student achievement.
Being an elected representative of the SBDM council is a wonderful way to learn about our school, work closely with teachers, and help make our school even more successful than it is now.
For more information on SBDM in Kentucky, visit www.education.ky.gov and enter SBDM in the search box or go to School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) on the JCPS website.
One of the duties of the PTSA each year is to facilitate SBDM elections for the two parent representatives for the following school year.
The two parent members of the council will receive training and serve from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
Parents can, but are not required to, serve two consecutive, one-year terms but do have to be re-elected each school year.
You are allowed to self-nominate & if you know someone who would be a good candidate, please encourage that person to run and nominate them.
Elected parents should be available to attend a monthly meeting. These meetings are typically held the third Wednesday of each month at 2:30 pm at school.
Nominations will be open from Friday, May 9, 2025 at 2:30 pm EST through Friday, May 16, 2025 at 2:30 PM EST. Nominations can be submitted via Google Form at bit.ly/CochraneSBDM.
The election will be held via online voting from Monday, May 19th, 2025 at 2:30 pm EST through Wednesday, May 21st at 2:30 pm EST. On Monday, May 19th, 2025, you will receive a notice from Shawna Stenton with JCPS with the subject, “Cochrane Elementary Parent Elections.” This email will contain your ballot to vote in the SBDM election.
If you will have a student at Cochrane Elementary next year, you are eligible to be nominated and to vote in this election. This includes parents, stepparents, and foster parents. Legal guardians are also eligible to vote if the child lives in their home. I urge every parent to participate in this important decision about the future of our children’s school.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email cochraneroars@gmail.com.

Dear Families,
Does your student enjoy art, music, and dance, or have an interest in writing, producing films, and taking photos? If so, join the Cochrane Elementary PTA and have fun unleashing your inner artist with the 2024 PTA Reflections program and contest! Calls for entries were sent home today, Monday, October 14th. Submission guidelines and an entry form are found (above) on the PTA website HERE. For inspiration, visit the Reflections virtual art gallery and learn more about prizes and scholarships at PTA.org/Reflections/Awards.
In 1969, Colorado State PTA President and arts educator Mary Lou Anderson introduced a student art contest that would eventually become Reflections, National PTA’s cornerstone arts program. In the 50+ years since the program’s founding, millions of students have been inspired to participate by reflecting on a specific, student-selected theme to create original artwork.
The goal of the Reflections program is to encourage all students to participate in the arts, regardless of their previous experience. Students who participate get an opportunity to explore the arts and culture, develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills, recognize themselves as artists, and become more interested in the ideas and works of others.
When children express themselves through words, pictures, music, and other art media they grow intellectually – they learn to analyze their thoughts and feelings. (Students may not use trademarked images, i.e. Marvel and DC comics.)
The official guidelines and entry forms can be found here. All participants will be celebrated with a reception at the conclusion of the contest. Please feel free to contact us at 502.909.0990 should you have any questions as you navigate the process and/or parent forms.
We are excited to receive your student's entry, and to support them with this wonderful program.

Dear Families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: Monday, September 9 through Friday, September 13, 2024 (see class schedule here)
Location: Cochrane Library Hallway
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/cochraneelementarysch1
To volunteer at the Book Fair, sign up HERE.
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
Happy reading,
Terra Noland

PS: Need one more reason to visit the Book Fair? Every purchase at the Fair benefits our school, students, and library!
