EVENT OVERVIEW
The Cochise 48 hour Film Competition is a short-film production challenge where teams are given only 2 days to make an entire short film. This event is open to all ages.
On Friday March 27th, 2026 at 4:00pm, all registered teams will meet at the kickoff meeting location (or virtually) to be given the required elements – a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue. Teams registered in the OPEN division will also be given an additional required element. Teams have the next 48-hours to write, shoot, edit, and render a short film.
All the films must be submitted by 4:00pm on Sunday, March 29th, 2026. Once submitted, the judging panel (made up of Industry Professionals) will score all the films to determine award winners in each division.
Trophies will be presented at the Screening and Awards Ceremony at 7:00pm that night.
PURPOSE
The Cochise 48-Hour Film Competition is an event that brings together filmmakers of all experience levels to create, share, and celebrate storytelling through film. This event provides an opportunity for local creatives—regardless of age or background—to exercise their craft, collaborate with others, and entertain our community.
ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS EVENT ARE DONATED TO YOUTH FILM PROGRAMS HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY.
FESTIVAL SCHEDULE
FRIDAY, March 27th, 2026 -
3:30pm - All registered teams will gather at the Kickoff location (R&R Pizza) for the start of the event
4:00pm - Teams will be given the required elements – a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue: these elements MUST be included in your film. Teams have the next 48-hours to write, shoot, edit, and render a maximum 8 minute short film.
SUNDAY, March 29th, 2025 -
4:00pm - All the videos have been turned in to the Judges and the Judges will score all the films.
6:00pm - Doors open at the Klein Center for the Performing Arts for the Screening/Awards ceremony
7:00pm - All*** the movies are screened on the big screen. Following the screening, the judges results are presented at the awards ceremony.
Tickets ($5 cash) for the Screening/Awards ceremony will be sold at the Klein Center
The contest is open to the public, but all productions must occur in Southern Arizona during the allotted time.
There are 2 Divisions:
OPEN and STUDENT
Anyone can compete in the "Open Division." Students K-12 can choose to compete in a "Student Division" where they will be judged against other students. Student teams must be comprised of an entirely student crew, but adults ARE allowed to act in student films.
Cochise48 is a family-friendly event intended for all ages to enjoy. All films submitted must be ‘PG’ appropriate (reference http://www.cbbfc.co.uk/pg for guidance).
Video must be at least 75% live-action video (no animated films).
All content must be royalty-free. Any audio/video used must show proof of copyright-ownership.
Sunday, March 29th at 7:00pm, Cochise48 will host a screening of all* films (any disqualified films will not be shown).
Cochise48 will be presenting awards in the following categories:
Top 3 Films in each Division
"Best Actor” in each Division.
Overall "Audience Choice"
Winners will be announced after screening the movies at the Awards Ceremony. Winners will be chosen by the judging panel, made up of industry professionals.
