Welcome to the Cocalico BB Gun Team website!
We are Coaches Jeff Nelson and Michael Fluke. Since 2009, we have been working with this program designed for children between the ages of 8 and 15 and look forward to working with both our seasoned vets and newest members. Membership with the Cocalico Sportsmen Association is not required in order for your child to participate, but as proud sponsors of our team, they create a fantastic, cost-effective opportunity for our youth to learn about proper gun safety and marksmanship skills.
We open each season with a parent meeting the Thursday before Thanksgiving and close the season in early April with the PA Daisy BB Gun State Meet. Practices are every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 pm with our first practice scheduled for the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Members will learn about gun safety, gunology, the rules and requirements of BB gun competition, and shooting in 4 different positions at 5 meters with the Daisy AVANTI Champion Model 499 BB Training Rifle.
We are a small, competitive team of members aging from 8 to 15.
During a standard meet, a team, comprised of 5-7 shooters, will shoot 10 bulls, or targets, in each of the 4 positions - prone, offhand, sitting, and kneeling - and take a written test of 25 or 50 questions. Each position and the test is valued at 100 points for a total possible score of 500 points. With the exception of States, we invite the entire team to compete in all meets.
We ask the parents of our team members to coordinate their efforts to host the Elstonville and our team for a late lunch. And, to close our season we ask for $10.00/team member - and the assistance of our team parents - to provide dinner for our sponsors, the members of the Cocalico Board, prior to their monthly meeting in April. Immediately following dinner, we introduce our team, share our achievements, and distribute any awards earned at the end of the season. We also ask each team member to contribute $10 toward a modest coach gift for our volunteer coaches.
