North Indian Ensemble

Khyal (or Khayal) is the dominant genre of North Indian, Hindustani classical music, originating from a Persian word meaning “imagination.” It is a flexible, highly ornamented, and improvisational style that surpassed the older, rigid dhrupad style in popularity by the 18th century, emphasizing emotional expression and technical virtuosity.

jo - whoever

dekhũ - should see (ũ is a nasalized u)

nenana - eyes

mẽ - in (ẽ is a nasalized e)

kalana - thoughts

parta - fall/occur/come

mohe - to me

carca (pronounced charchā) ki - of describing
