Each Learning Module is structured as follows:
Overview: A brief outline of the content of the module
Essential Concepts: 2-3 main "takeaways" from the unit, based on grade-level education standards
Driving Question: The "big idea" for the unit in the form of a question that you and your students will answer together. This is a real, engaging question to guide learning and incite interest - something that can't just be easily answered by Google.
Related Standards: Grade-level Next Generation Science Standards relevant to that ecosystem and unit.
Entry Event: This first activity is designed to introduce the Focus Ecosystem and Essential Concepts, and engage student interest.
Classroom Investigations: Original curricula and activities from trustworthy sources. While designed to be indoors, some of these could also be done outdoors or at a field trip site. Approximate time required is provided for each activity, though you may wish to reserve a few extra minutes just in case. Several activities are available to choose from to allow for flexibility, so you can choose what works best for your class. You can pick one or do them all!
Field Studies: Field trips are the cornerstone of Coast Connections! Ideal sites for visiting your grade's Focus Ecosystem within Lincoln County will be provided, as well as simple but impactful outdoor activities.
Authentic Project: We call these projects "authentic" because they engage an outside audience, community partners, or both that allow students to share their learning and work with real stakeholders. This type of project has been proven to be far more meaningful, and to invoke longer-lasting learning.
