Nope! Florida practice law allows for direct access to physical therapy care. Meaning, patients or clients are able to seek and receive treatment from a licensed physical therapist without a script/referral from their PCP or any other medical practitioner.
I have chosen to be a completely out of network provider and not participate with any health insurance companies for the sole purpose of being able to provide exceptional one-on-one care every session. Insurance companies restrict not only the amount of time PT's can treat, but also the types of treatment we provide and the amount of visits a patient/client can receive.
Depending on your health insurance provider and whether or not you have met your deductible for the year, an average co-pay for your typical outpatient physical therapy visit is between $25-$50+ per session.
Let's take the middle of the road of the average for example at a $40 co-pay per visit. Your insurance based model PT will prescribe a plan of care at an average of 10-12+ visits depending on severity of symptoms, etc. Your treatment sessions will then most likely include exercises that you are already doing at home, little to no hands on treatment, and time burners like 10+ minute warm ups to fill the hour time slot and run up the bill for insurance.
Not to mention the most important factor of it all, you will be seen at the same time as several other patients/clients each visit with the PT splitting their attention and time.
So, at the end of your plan of care, you will have spent close to $500 for lack of personalization and low quality treatment that took 3 months to complete.
On the other hand, in the cash pay model that is Coastal Jax Physical Therapy, you will ALWAYS receive one on one care every session, your treatment plan and exercises will be specifically catered towards your personal goals, your treatment sessions will not include only your home exercises (waste of time), your visit time/duration nor your physical therapist will be restricted by insurance, and you will have a first-class experience ultimately contributing to better outcomes in a shorter period of time.
