I served in the US Army and when I got out I worked at a heat treating plant. Then at Indiana & Michigan Electric Company’s generating plant moving on to a lineman. I married my wife, Damaris, and started at Indiana University 3 days later. I graduated with 3 degrees in 5 years. My Bachelor’s in Cartography and Masters in Educational Media degrees were awarded the same summer, and the EdS one year later. After graduation, I taught at East Central College in Missouri and did graduate evening classes for Southeast Missouri State, after 4 years, I came to Chemeketa Community College where I taught for 18 years. I started wood carving in about 1980 and have carved almost everything I have been interested in doing. I carve ducks, Santa figures, carousel animals – both full size and smaller, tree ornaments, caricature figures and many other items. I teach carving at shows and rendezvous for both beginning and experienced youth and adults and try to fit the carvings to the levels of the carvers. I belong to Salem, Oregon’s Capitol Woodcarvers and to the Lincoln City Coastal Carvers clubs and I have carved on the Salem’s Riverfront Carousel since the first day. Carving is my hobby, and I enjoy very much creating carvings for others to enjoy.
