Oilspillswatch is a transformative project dedicated to addressing the dire consequences of anthropogenic activities by hydrocarbon companies in the Niger Delta.
Over the past two decades, this region has witnessed the devastation of more than 240,000 barrels of oil spills, rendering approximately 70% of farmlands unproductive and displacing over 1.5 million people from their homes.
Our solution is twofold. Firstly, Oilspillswatch meticulously tracks and exposes the ecological damage caused by these oil spills and emissions, drawing attention to the magnitude of the crisis with undeniable statistics. Secondly, we are committed to fostering long-term change. We work to hold hydrocarbon companies accountable for their actions and ensure the adequate removal of oil spills.
Thirdly, it pioneers a verified carbon-credit marketplace, incentivizing soil restoration and the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices.
Alongside a stellar ecosystem of international partners, Oilspillswatch equips every farmer and rancher to increase their soil carbon and yields while securing additional income through carbon credits.
The time to act is now. Join us to recarbonize soil and protect the planet.
Our software-free process ushers in the next generation of high-quality, cost-efficient, and scalable carbon credits – an essential part of mitigating climate change.
Remote Sensing and GIS Technology
Oilspillswatch utilizes remote sensing technology to collect real-time data on oil spills and emissions. This technology allows for the monitoring of vast and often remote areas, providing accurate and up-to-date information. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are employed to map and analyze the spatial data, helping to identify the most affected areas and assess environmental damage.
The project leverages data analytics and machine learning algorithms to process the vast amount of data collected. These technologies help identify patterns, trends, and potential risk factors associated with oil spills and emissions. Machine learning models can also assist in predicting future occurrences and taking proactive measures.
Verified Carbon-Credit Marketplace Platform
Oilspillswatch employs a dedicated technology platform to establish and manage the verified carbon-credit marketplace. This platform provides a secure and transparent environment for local farmers and participants to trade carbon credits. It ensures that the economic incentives for soil restoration and regenerative agriculture are properly monitored and rewarded.
