Chris Riley

Chris is a School Board Member for Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation, representing Harris Twp.

Commitment: Served on PHM school board for 11 years; Proud father of a PHM graduate.

Academics: Focused on getting our teachers the resources they need to continue their extraordinary academic achievements and help those students who need extra help to become proficient.


Safety: School safety remains his highest priority. He is steadfastly committed to ensuring a safe, healthy and inclusive learning environment for all our students.


Civility: Our community is watching. Our parents, students and community members deserve a school board that is professional, civil, and thoughtfully discusses sensitive issues while also treating people with dignity and respect. Chris has always done that and will continue to do so.

Dana Sullivan

Dana is a Candidate for the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation Running for At Large seat 7.


Commitment: Proud mother to 4 children attending PHM schools; Former PHM graduate.


PHM advocate
: Committed to supporting excellence in education. Dana will bring a level-headed and caring approach to making decisions that will positively impact the future of the students, parents, educators, and community within the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.


Health and Well-being: Well-being is a top priority. As a school nurse she understands that students need to feel safe, secure, and heard in order to learn and flourish. As a frontline worker during the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped make tough decisions and navigate ever-changing circumstances while keeping both the physical and mental health of our students and staff a priority.


Collaboration: Serving the P-H-M community in dozens of volunteer roles over the past twenty years, Dana knows how to work with a committee to get things done. She knows that successful Board members need to do their homework in order to make wise decisions and can’t be afraid to take a stand when necessary to protect our children.

James Turnwald

James is a School Board Member for Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation, representing Penn Twp.


Commitment: Served on the PHM school board for 10 months; Proud father of 4 children- the oldest are current PHM elementary students.


Community: Leaving a place better than you found it has motivated James throughout his life to serve his community. He helps coach his children’s sports teams, is a Board Member for the Potawatomi Zoological Society (4+ yrs), a Board Member for the Michiana Down Syndrome Family Support and Advocacy Group (5+ yrs), volunteer with Meals on Wheels (5+ yrs) and a member of the Rotary Club of South Bend (5+ yrs).


Leadership: James oversees a staff of 28 employees to execute transportation, infrastructure, community development, and sustainability projects that benefit the greater Michiana area. His work experience provides a strong understanding of government finance, grant-writing, fundraising, and attention to detail aptitudes.


Board Accomplishments
: During his time on the board he helped save PHM money by leveraging federal funding for electric school buses and helped plan facility improvements to Meadows Edge elementary school.
